When leading, it’s vital to understand that change is inevitable in an office setting. It’s your job to be sure that everyone is comfortable with this change, transitioning for the better. Expect roadblocks – With every new endeavor, the so-called “plan” should never be the only plan. You will need a Plan A, Plan B, Plan C, etc. Even if you feel as though your original plan is foolproof, a contingency plan is always a must. Things rarely go as planned, so we need always be prepared for obstacles.
Always be open-minded – The main component of a strong company is diversity amongst staff, meaning there are always different points of view. Therefore, to foster change we must be open to different ideas and ways of thinking.
Understand change affects everyone – Change in a company doesn’t only affect the leaders of the company, it affects everyone. Your teammates’ behavior may change while they take time to figure out the new changes, as well as working through new adjustment. Once this becomes an expected reaction to change, it will be easier to help your teammates cope with the new road the company is taking. Remember, change is the only constant in life and in the growth of a company.
